DEMETRI : Kallas is the only place in which I drew breaths of the needful kind. This was well after its storied "Golden Age"...
DEMETRI: I was a rent boy on permanent retainer to Aipoli's top Godpriest. Andrejas took notice of me at one of the amir's "B" parties.
DEMETRI: He was in a small party of warriors - hired guns, if you will - called the Ring. They were honored guests of the amir...
DEMETRI: ...Particularly their leader, one Tomasz Dragomir.
DEMETRI: Andrejas somehow tricked the old man into giving me up for the evening. I didn't know what to make of this savage man. He gave me the impression of a wolf trying to convince a fawn to let itself be devoured.
DEMETRI: He told me I was "made for great things," and to "go beyond the laws of God and Man." And the next day, he was gone.
DEMETRI: Some years later --
Demetrios! Come to me...
DEMETRI: I travelled with the Ring as a servant for a time, witnessing all manner of treachery and strange magic. They treated humanity as stupid animals, sowing violence for mysterious ends. Andrejas and Tomasz had many arguments during that time, with Tomasz insisting the Ring stand at only Five members.
DEMETRI: Had he lived, I do not imagine my life would have been more romantic or easy... ...but I do not want to forget him.
TOMASZ: FIVE |
