Description: Theodore is a mysterious young man who came to Harlan with the intent of destroying the progenitors. He has a rather strange method of gaining power, which is generally secret. Despite his young (for a vampire) age, he seems incredibly powerful, and sleeps in a coffin like a progenitor. He loves boats and has a great admiration for the story's young protagonist.

Description: Our hero, a fresh new vampire. Friends with Demetri as a child, he was chosen by him to be changed, but due to strange circumstance, ended up with Vitus as a mentor instead. Jack was a naughty youth who was later reformed somewhat, he can be a bit of a slacker but is kind and helpful to his friends. Is not intellectually confident and often feels stupid compared to the scholars in the Circle. Has a strong sense of justice and can have a bit of a temper at times. Also, extremely gay. Over the course of the story, he was taken in by Theodore. His first allegiance is to his friends, but now his friends are each other's enemies. What to do?

VITUS WHITESTONE
(Vitus rhymes with Titus, "vigh-tuhs")
Lineage:Sombreta
Age: 138, physical age is 22.
Description: Jack's mentor and 'dad', a friendly sort but can be a total doormat. Vitus has a strong sense of morality, but has a lot of conflicts in his association with those that do not. He believes in maintaining order in the Circle, but has to willfully the ignore the bloody and inhumane acts that his 'family' do. One method of dealing with this has been shirking responsibility and sticking his nose in books, but now with a new 'child' to take care of, he must deal with more than he's been used to. Vitus is a good friend to all, particularly Helen, Thierry and Demetri. He also one of the few who associate with non-Circle vampires. He is straight.

DEMETRI IONAVIC
Lineage: Dragomir
Age: '25' "Those were hard times..."
Description: A friend to Jack as a child, he chose him to become a vampire, but lost rights to mentor him to Vitus. Demetri is an old vampire, and a 'knight' for the Circle. He takes care of all the business related to the Dragomir lineage, and is quite a business tycoon. Has a strong sense of morality, though is less concerned with the 'humanity' that Vitus is always squawking about. Loves animals and art, he is the most romantic member of the Circle. (Though murder is not a complete turn off.) He was charged with the defense of the Circle against Theodore, but given no support by Dragomir. This conflict came to a head, and ended the old man's life. The remaining Dragomirs are splintered into new allegiances.

Description: Sarah's new child, Tristan is the youngest, and last vampire to be created by the Circle. Recruited by a complete stranger, Tristan is a former fashion model. In life he was a bit vain but kind, now he is terrorized by his family into complete passivity and meekness. Tristan is foreign to Glenland, coming from Hodden. Sarah berates him for his accent, so he stays silent, but is actually quite social. Demetri took pity on him and used the strife caused by Theodore as an excuse to liberate him from Sarah's clutches, if only for a little while. Demetri came to regret it when he discovered Tristan getting too close to the object of his own desire.

Description: Tristan's 'mother,' Sarah is petty and cruel. A virtuoso with the violin, and a flair for fashion, Sarah takes what she wants when she wants it. The Princess of Dragomir for more than a century, she idolized Dragomir and used him as her role model. She was refrigerated by her sister for a time, in the wake of Demetri's coup. Now she is on the loose and allied with Greyburn against both Demetri and Theodore's factions.

TOMASZ DRAGOMIR - progenitor
Age: Old?
Description: Demetri's 'father,' Dragomir ruled over the Circle which is ostensibly a parliament. Used the excuse of having come from darker times to do whatever he wished. Fairly lazy, he let Demetri handle all the business while he attended to his perverted desires full time. While having little compassion, he seemed much less 'insane' than the other progenitors. Considered his lineage to be the best and most powerful. In the end, he paid the price for delegating too much authority for too long, turning Demetri into a very powerful vampire.

Description: Demetri's 'sister,' Francesca was once royalty. Close to Demetri, they are not actually related but often pretend to be.

Description: Apostate local rockstar, former of 'the Belfries' was frittering life way on drugs, now frittering life away on... video games or something? Darren is terrified of the other vampires, and of his new nature. Harbors a desire to kill everyone in the Circle, thankfully he is extremely weak and lazy. Somehow he has ended up being sort of friends with Jack. His vampire hunting schemes seem mostly forgotten, and there are hints he may rock out once again...

Description: Spunky go-getter, Vitus' best friend, Ellen's little sister. Helen is kind but has a strangely childish sense of justice, and 'favors'. Aubrey's favorite child, she has moved out on her own to avoid him. Owner of Fitzpatrick's bar, she loves Harlan's social scene, and knows many hip people. One of the kindest vampires to humans, she only gets blood from willing 'donation' from a select few. While totally boy crazy in hobby, she acts like an old maid and prefers taking bubble baths and reading romance novels to hitting on real life guys. Doting and loving to her new child, she is oblivious to his faults and murderous intentions.

Description: Gangly Goddite psychopath, Ellen and Helen's 'father.' Aubrey may be the most mentally ill progenitor. Falls into fugue states which generally involve violent and religious furor. On some level he is kind and romantic, and views himself that way. Considers his lineage to be the 'kindest.' Has strange illusion powers that he mainly uses for parlor tricks. Very involved in Harlan's social scene, he is a fashion trend setter who lets himself fall out of favor every few years only to emerge again, completely forgotten.

Description: Slightly androgynous scientist, a bit blasé but intelligent, she is Helen's older sister. Has the unfortunate task of caring for Aubrey and keeping him out of trouble. Does not socialize with other Circle members much. Is friends with Florence though and had a strange relationship with Thierry. She had to break it off when Thierry recently outraged Aubrey.

Description: Loveable (but evil) histrionic. Vitus' 'mother', and Jack's 'grandmother.' Angela was executed for being a witch, and it was actually true. She used to jump to conclusions with people and could not be dissuaded from her beliefs. Was loving and doting, to an obsessive and smothering degree. Also had an extreme taste for violence and blood, often feeding in the goriest of circumstances. Had a close and odd relationship with Gaston-Louis and was rather traumatized by his betrayal. Considered her lineage to be the most refined and educated. After a narrow escape or two, Theodore finally took her life.

NICHOLAS 'NICK THE CUTTER' SIMON

Age: '38'
Description: Thierry's second choice, Nick was a hitman in life. Was bossed around and treated like a misbehaving dog by Thierry, he had trouble controlling his more monstrous impulses. Didn't talk much. Eventually Thierry trapped him in a well, then - realizing it was insufficient to contain the beast - killed him there. Since then, his skeleton has received a nice makeover.

GASTON-LOUIS GREGOIRE
Lineage: Sombreta
Age: '26'
Description: Sombreta's toadie, Jack's 'uncle', Vitus' 'brother.' Gaston-Louis had a strange self image, imagining himself to be a dark hero of the night. A petty bully, he was generally harmless and useless. He met a very dark end, betraying Sombreta, trapped in a coma, and ultimately destroyed by Theodore.

Description: Curmudgeonly metal kid, Florence's 'brother.' Thierry is a powerful warlock, has many ties to the spirit world and loves summoning demons. He owns Rafflesia nightclub, and has the most human associates, though they are all business related. Has a lot of dealings with Harlan's crime world, and oddly, law enforcement. Sensitive about his youthful appearance, he can in ways still be quite childish.

Description: Allison was a normal if rebellious teenager, who befell an unfortunate fate when she was kidnapped and murdered. She was reborn though, as a vampire progenitor. For the first time we see a freshly born progenitor. Unaware of her situation at first, Jack and Vitus help her learn to control her instincts, and she moves in with Jack and the other kids. Allison is sassy, and don't take no shit. Is developing a close friendship with Thierry.

Description: Inka was tiny and kind seeming, with the most level and human behavior of all the progenitors. She was just as dark as any of them, but knew well enough to keep it hidden. Had a strong connection to the spirit world, her lineage all dabble in magic of some sort. Owned Harlan's aquarium, she was close with Florence but had a distant relationship with Thierry. She was the first of Theodore's victims.

Description: Thierry's 'sister', Florence has a beautiful singing voice. Is quite closed off and is not friends with many members of the Circle. As with other members of her lineage, a strong spell caster. Her specialty in spirit magic is conjuring fairy-folk to party with her. She loves shoes.

Vicier's circumstances are unknown, but Marcus was killed some time in the past by a mob of vampires organized by Santi.

Description: Friends with Vitus, Farley is much younger than the Circle vampires, like most Crowboys. Part of a lineage that is despised by the Circle, particularly Dragomir, Vitus and Farley try to maintain order within their warring factions. Crowboys, while not as evil as advertised, are un-ruled, and unruly. Without the rules of the Circle, they are free to create new offspring as they wish, so there are many of them. Farley is a cool-headed leader within the un-leadable, and is a bit of a class warrior.

GRACIE

Description: This is the team Theodore assembled to help with his quest in Harlan. Little is known about them. Bostwick was serious and dressed like a college kid, Consuela doesn't say much and has been known to wear an odd hat, and Olga is a pretty typical Antearctan - which is to say, a very weird brand of foreigner. After Bostwick was slain, the others shied away from the continuing conflict in Harlan.

Heritage: These characters are ghouls - living mortals with a strange, inherited, supernatural condition.
Age: All are in their mid twenties, but look younger in some ways and older in others.
Description: Ghouls are supernatural creatures that occasionally interact with vampires, though strictly speaking, they have no connection. These ghouls are friends of Vitus, and seem to have had dealings with Demetri in the past. Stripes is quiet and hunch-backed, Sanna is helpful and slightly gothy, and Tabitha is coy and manipulative.

A skeptic, Ryder over-analyzes everything and can be self centered, but has a romantic side as well.

Age: 51 & 21
Description: Blockhead was a hard-working trucker who gave a ride to a strange boy hauling a coffin down the road. (Theodore Leighton.) He ended up as a supernatural slave, running errands for Theodore during the day, hauling weaponry and other odd items. At night, he served as unwilling sidekick. He got to be a bit cranky in his day. Seemed to have been destroyed somehow by a demon that was sent to kill Theodore.
Minnie was Blockhead's replacement, recruited while she was on vacation in Koromo. Theodore saw her using a laptop and decided she might be able to help him with computer hacking skills. This remains to be seen. For some reason, Theodore seems not to have used his supernatural powers to influence her.

Due to a prior friendly relationship with Dragomir on the continent, she sent a letter of warning to the old vampire when Theo set out for revenge. In the fallout of the Dragomir's death and the Circle's dissolution, she is a wild card.

Description: Arsonella played versus Darren in the Greyburn game. She since had her memories wiped, but some trace of trauma remained. Not finding out anything useful, she gave up and abandoned him in a hotel room. When she isn't up to no good, Arsonella works in an occult bookstore and is a vampire aficionado once picked by Thierry.

"PRINCESS" AKIKO SHERINO

Description: Akiko was played against Jack in the Dragomir game. Her memory was erased, but hints of it returned, and with Arsonella, she took some revenge on hapless Darren. She is a dominatrix who was seemingly picked by Dragomir himself before the rules of the games were changed. She is tough and world weary.

Scylla is a tall and voluptuous lady with few inhibitions, Kang is a punky little scallywag, and Christelle is the group's apparent leader and voice of reason.

HEROIN HARRY
Age: Unknown. Unknowable?
Description: Heroin Harry has a way of turning up everywhere. Someone gives him heroin to sell, and somehow manages to turn a profit, despite his being totally messed up 24-7. He has a few useful skills, though he most assuredly can't remember from whence he acquired them. He is a passable money-manager and musician.
