CHAPTER 9 - PAGE 2
(Transcript and visual captions below}

Theodore searched around the estate, asking Santi and the others if they'd seen Minnie. They hadn't. After all his work cleaning up and making the room as presentable as possible, she must have wandered off. What an annoyance. The side effect of the protection from scent was that he was helpless as a human to find someone in the sprawling building. Oh well, he could call that chef from the last time, Enid? Edith? What was it? She'd probably be better at the presentation anyhow. He had to make a good impression!

In which Jack catches the red eye.

Edith was having another horrible nightmare. Like before, but this one was even more elaborate. Two young men this time, one of them wrapped in bloody bandages. She hardly had any strength to wobble to the table, the heavy silver tray was more than her flimsy constitution could handle these days. Her mother was always telling her to get her ears checked, it wasn't normal to get earaches this often. Now her other ear was ringing just as badly.

Ahahaha. I've been waiting to do this page for a longgg time. I hope you guys will like what's coming, I had originally planned for this next bit to be the end of last chapter, but it was just too much! I think I like it better here now. Do you guys remember Edith? Poor lady.

TRANSCRIPT: This is the text of the comic, for purposes such as translation and internet searches.

1.)

(Close-up of Jack's weary, mostly closed eyes. Background is the decaying Kellgren estate.)

OFF PANEL VOICE: Jack.

2.)

(Jack's whole face, nodding off to sleep.)

3.)

(Jack is startled to wakefulness, revealing the whites of his eyes are blood red, his face and body still flecked with blood from his recent ordeal.)

OFF PANEL VOICE: Jack! Wake up!

4.)

(Across the table, the voice is revealed to be Theodore. They are seated at a
candle-lit table, which is topped with a glass of red and a vase of poppies.)

THEODORE: You need to stay conscious right now.
Good. See, you’re going to be just fine. It’s safe here.

5.)

THEODORE: Jack, when we met, I asked you something.
You said no, but I think you may have changed your mind by now.
There is so much danger, so much evil out there.
I can’t always be here to save you. No one can.
You’ll have to save yourself, but you can’t do it as you are now.

6.)

(Jack looks disastrous, shirt open and chest wrapped in bloody bandages. The red glass sits close to him.)

7.)

(Jack's hand reaches for the glass.)

THEODORE: (Off panel) Do you understand? Yes, that glass is for you.

8.)

(As Jack drinks, Theodore calls a servant woman, who moves a bit awkwardly.)

THEODORE: Edith? Thank you. We are ready.

9.)

(The woman carries a tray, shaking. She is disheveled and has a blood-flecked apron.)

THEODORE: Edith has prepared something special.

10.)

(Edith looks either blank or terrified, blood trickling from an ear, dotted with Theodore's spiders.)
