CHAPTER 8 - PAGE 20
(Transcript and visual captions below}

The TV was turned down low, the voices of the late-night infomercial mumbled excitedly about an unknown product. The flashing screen illuminated the dark room in shocking flashes of color, sending wild shadows spilling and retracting from every piece of furniture. Jack stumbled over his feet, turning in the narrow passage to flee. His eyes were clouded with blood, and every thought dimmed by the screaming in his head, that said GO! LEAVE! His bare feet tangled in a pile of dirty clothing and he nearly fell, grabbing the cold walls with both hands and pushing himself away in unbearable slow motion like he was under water. The glow of the TV suddenly cast a bizarre shadow that stretched across the entire room. He glanced back to see his pursuer inches from his face, impossibly, moving through the air like an eel. The black cloth covered body still emerged from the door, unspooling, curving through the air like a worm.

In which Jack feels uninvited in his own home.

"Tell me you're not going Vitus! I swear it's a trick or just that boy being a little coward again. I'm not going this time."
"Angela, don't be cruel. He could be in trouble, real trouble. How would we know?"
"You shouldn't let him monopolize your time like this, he's just greedy. Can't make any friends on his own so he makes a little show for you so you'll spend time with him."
Vitus rolled his eyes as he tried to solve this riddle, glancing back to the phone.
A screen had popped up -- Your inbox is at capacity.
"Huh? I thought I just cleared this thing."
He closed the window, and another popped up -- You have 999 new messages.

Oh boy you guys, the next comic is the big number 200! We've been working very hard on some exciting things for the site, which we hope to debut Wednesday-ish (probably Thursday at my usual rate :P) with the next comic. And that comic, whew. Something very exciting happens on that page, and if you all aren't flipping your wigs, I'm going to be sorely disappointed in you. :)

TRANSCRIPT:  This is the text of the comic, for purposes such as translation and internet searches.

1.)

(Minchin, plastic bodied, menaces Jack in the apartment. Jack is still bloodied.)

MINCHIN: Knock knock, son.
Jack, was it? I like that name. Jackie the l’il Jackdaw.

2.)

(Minchin's body is more visible, swaying into view like an eel's.)

MINCHIN: I’m just tryin’ to tell you a funny joke. C’mon, you’ll love it.

3.)

(Jack pulls the window open, Minchin still menacing and serpentine.)

MINCHIN: Knock knock, Jack. Now you say...

4.)

(Bird form Jack flies from the apartment and Minchin's eyes glow green behind him.)

JACK: (telepathically) VITUS! HELP!!

5.)

(Bird Jack continues his flight, calling to Vitus.)

JACK: (telepathically) VITUS! VITUS! HELP! VITUS!

6.)

(Angela and Vitus are in a hotel somewhere, Vitus receiving Jack's summons.)

JACK: (telepathically) COME TO ME...

VITUS: Oh Lord, not again, Jack...

7.)

(Vitus looks confused and Angela annoyed.)

VITUS: He stopped! False alarm?

ANGELA: It’s nothing. Now like I was saying--

8.)

(Bird Jack is in the grip of a gloved hand, freaked out.

MINCHIN: (sings)
Oh who got into the jewelry box?
Who stole Mama’s rings?

JACK: ee!

9.)

(A clown arm reaches out of a roof and seizes bird Jack.)

MINCHIN: (sings)
The jackdaw did it so I wrung his neck
He don’t deserve nice things!

JACK: ee! ee!

10.)

(The clown has outlandish eyelashes and horrible rat teeth, while a strip club
marquee makes bad puns behind and his birdy victim squeezes its eyes shut.)

11.)

(The bird opens its eyes to see the rat-clown mouth about to bite its head off.)

12.)

(Jack transforms again, into a black smoke that hisses from Minchin's grasp.)

13.)

(Jack as a bird in flight again.)

JACK: (telepathically) HELP HELP

14.)

JACK: (telepathically) HELP!

15.)

(Vitus and Angela again. Now Vitus is getting a buzzing on his cell phone as well as the call in his head.)

VITUS: There he goes again...

JACK: (telepathically) COME TO ME!

ANGELA: *sigh* You’re not thinking of leaving?

16.)

JACK: (telepathically) VITUS COME...

ANGELA: Well?

16.)

VITUS: Phone’s on the fritz?
