CHAPTER 9.5 - PAGE 5

(Transcript and visual captions below}

They traveled in relative silence, only a mumbled request to turn the fiery heater down and a taciturn acquiescence. Fragile snowflakes tumbled onto the windshield and melted instantly. The only piles of snow that gathered here and there outside were left from earlier in the day when the weather had been more bold. They drove through the club district, people already lining up in the cold as the businesses began to open. Jack pulled into a dark lot, and had already turned the car off before Karl noticed, lost in thought. Jack looked at him expectantly for a very brief, but uncomfortable moment. Karl regained his wits and began to gather his belongings.
Better bring my bag, I'm probably never going to be in this car again...
It was a strange and sad revelation.

In which Jack is the cool one... because he's dead!

"Ouch. No, I didn't... I really did just want to talk."
        "Okay."
        "Uh..."
Karl spent too long neatly folding his scarf and trying to find a place to put it. The light in the club was frosty blue, but hidden heaters by their feet made the area comfortably warm. Gentle indistinct music played, and the seat beneath him was soft. It would've been pretty relaxing in a different circumstance.
God, where to start? Jack watched him wordlessly from across the booth like an expressionless cat. Molly did that sometimes, she'd sit on your chest as you slept, so you'd wake to glowing green eyes inches away. Then she'd slap you in the face with a fuzzy paw until you got up and fed her. Yeah, like that. Except that was cute and this was just scary and he'd feel really bad if Jack slapped him.
Erm... okay, focus damn it!

At last the chapter is revealed! It is 9 and a half because it's a bit of a break from the high-tension plot of late. I'll hope you'll enjoy it.
PS I actually planned this to take place at 'Eisbar' before this awful weather set in. Though perhaps I have spent extra time relishing in drawing little snowflakes and winter coats.
So now that my summer job has concluded, I should be able to return to the usual update pace and hopefully get that bonus fulfilled. Also, Christopher is nearly done with something entertaining for you all... :)

TRANSCRIPT: This is the text of the comic, for purposes such as translation and internet searches.

1.)

(Jack and Karl walk through the snow to a building which is all lit up in aqua colored light. Some people mill about the outside.)

2.)

(The bouncer lets Jack and Karl past some indignant looking patrons.)

FEMALE BOUNCER: Hey Jack, go ahead.

JACK: Thanks.

3.)

(The two men walk through an elaborate and vividly lit hall.)

KARL: Damn... I guess you’re the cool one now.

JACK: Guess so.

4.)

(Jack's eyes flash brilliantly in the dim club's light. The environment is colorful and lit with multiple types of sparkling lights.)

TITLE: CHAPTER 9 1/2 -- INTERVIEW WITH JACK

5.)

(They ascend a colorful staircase.)

JACK:It’s more private up here.

KARL: Yeah...

6.)

(Jack is handed a drink as Karl takes his scarf off. A glass of beer already sits on the table.)

OFF-SCREEN CLUB EMPLOYEE: Here you go, Jack. Enjoy.

JACK: Thanks.

7.)

(Karl raises an eyebrow.)

KARL: So let’s see, first-name basis at the poshest club in Harlan-- --Car costs more than my yearly salary-- --and you look like you’ve replaced
your blood with cocaine. Should I guess what you’ve been up to, then?

8.)

(Jack rests his chin on his hands and looks unamused to the max.)

JACK: Congratulations, you have eyes and ears and at least part of a brain. Don’t tell me you grew up to be a bleedin’ cop.
