CHAPTER 8 - PAGE 01
(Transcript and visual captions below}

The trip to Koromo was awful. Theodore was down to a small baggy of soil, which was quickly used up and he had to resort to rubbing grains of it on his face during the day, for even the slightest amount of relief. His day sickness was doubled because of it, and he nearly felt like he was seasick as well. (Which hurt his sailor's pride more than anything.) He laid on his cot, the last of his Glenmarks utterly spent on this voyage, which he couldn't even enjoy. He had nothing, only the outfit he wore. He tried to comfort himself with thoughts of arrival, he would soon be able to sleep outdoors in the earth if he wanted, the soil he was missing would be limitless there, along with peace and the camaraderie of long-lost friends and allies.
"Is anyone truly my friend though?"
That was too painful a thought. Surely this place would hold a better future for him, and for everyone else, eventually.

In which no one likes old babies.

Karl stepped into Royale Tattoos, and was confused to see several of the employees lined up against the windows, staring out.
"It's snowing! It's snowing!" Madrigal, his artist, said musically.
"Is it? They've been promising that for weeks now." Karl said blankly.
"Uh, duh." Madrigal said, pointing at the snowflakes on his coat, "You were just out there. You didn't notice?"
"Oh I guess not. Hm." he pulled his hat off, and rubbed his face slowly, sinking into a leather lounge chair. He blinked heavily several times, and let his eyelids drift slowly downward like a tired kitten. Madrigal frowned as her client's lack of enthusiasm was bringing down the cheerful winter spirit significantly.
"Well, we'll have to close down for the night because of the avalanche warning and all..." she said with faux-disappointment.
          "What? Aw man." Karl slumped.
"Ugh! Get it together Karl, I'm not going to work on you if you're drunk."
"Huh...? I'm not..." he shook his head to wake himself up, "Oh.. oh. Ha. Yeah. Long day at work, I guess. Ummm. So you're not really closing early?"
Madrigal rolled her eyes, "Take your shirt off and shut up."

GRR @ Establishing shots. They took foreverrrrr. Oh well, they're done now. :) I based Theo's shirt on one of my favorites, though mine is long sleeved and is covered with pansies instead. Can you believe I'm skipping a MONTH ahead??? I freaked out about skipping a WEEK last chapter! It's about time, I've been itching to draw scarves and gloves.

TRANSCRIPT:  This is the text of the comic, for purposes such as translation and internet searches.

3.)

(She finds her sunglasses on a table on the deck.)

TANNED WOMAN:  Tch, thank God.

THEODORE:  *sob*

6.)

(She speaks to Theodore.)

TANNED WOMAN:  What’s wrong honey? Where’s your family?

THEODORE:  I don’t have one.

TANNED WOMAN:  Aw! I’m sorry. Don’t you have any friends then?

(He grabs her wrist.)

11.)

(He looks up at her with tearful eyes.)

JACK:  Aw, it’s still so early!

RYDER:  Sorry... Stupid exam.

JACK:  I guess I’ve already had my way with you so... OK.

RYDER:  Ugh.

15.)

(Jack and Ryder walk down a calm city street, holding hands and passing by shops. Ryder points at a few errant snowflakes drifting down. The humans' breaths are visible.)

RYDER:  Ooh look! Real snow!

JACK:  Surely it will destroy us all.

16.)

(They kiss.)

JACK:  Bye sweetie.

17.)

(Ryder walks off, as Jack cheerfully watches the snow falling, his eyes glinting an eerie green in the dark. Karl Random walks by, not taking notice.)
