CHAPTER 9 - VITUS INVESTIGATES, PAGE 1

Vitus had never seen a Hanian vampire before, let alone as a crowboy. But her demeanor made her life story obvious enough - she was new - and the vinyl wig made her lineage identity easy to surmise as well.
       "Are you," she asked nervously, "Trying to threaten me?"
       "Assuredly not. I'm trying to charm you."

In which Vitus gets gum stuck to his shoe.

Vitus didn't know Irene's name when they first met so long ago, but at that time she was powerful enough to defeat him, at least with help from that old Cassius Trower. The way crowboys live, it seemed incredible that she should still be around after all that time...

The plan is to do these easy-styled strips at a slightly quicker pace, until Vitus-styled
investigations are completed. This is the first of five! Gotta catch 'em all, babies.

Meanwhile, thank you again for the well wishes! It indeed seems like the pills are a
promising avenue of care for this seizure business, with something like a 60% chance
of preventing them completely. We shall see. But whatever the case, we will carry on!

            TRANSCRIPT: This is the text of the comic, for purposes such as translation and internet searches.

1.)

(Rendered to resemble a weathered comic strip of yesteryear, this panel bears the title "Vitus Investigates," and the image of detective Vitus with a smoking gun.)

2.)

(Vitus and an unfamiliar vampire dance beneath cool colored lights.)

INTERTITLE: Vitus was in "The Place 2B," dancing with a frightened fledgling crowboy.

VITUS: That's a lovely wig, ...?

UNFAMILIAR VAMPIRE: Ronnie.

VITUS: Charmed.

3.)

(Vitus looks kind and Ronnie pensive.)

VITUS: I need to talk to someone knowledgable about history. You don't have to worry about me... I'm the good guy.

RONNIE: O

4.)

(The expressions grow more serious.)

RONNIE: I don't know, Vitus. You know I'm new...

VITUS: Just tell the one that turned you. We'll talk.

5.)

(Vitus still leads the dance, looking like Mr. Cool Guy.)

VITUS: He must have been an unusually progressive youth, to turn a Hanian.

RONNIE: Actually, she's an older crow...

6.)

(Ronnie is into the dance, but Vitus is jarred by recognition.)
